“THE LINCOLN HERITAGE WATER TRAIL – SANGAMON RIVER”
Speakers:
Louis Yockey, IL Dept of Natural Resources
Kent Massie, Massie, Massie & Associates
The Sangamon River winds through the heart of The Prairie State of Illinois. The 85 mile stretch between Decatur and Petersburg has the direct historical connection with the life of Abraham Lincoln as well as many opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. In 1965 Illinois Governor Otto Kerner designated the Lincoln Heritage Canoe Trail through this area. This presentation of a draft study will include recommendations for awareness and stewardship of the river and associated environments, recreation and eco-tourism opportunities, and heritage and historical connection to Abraham Lincoln. This will be an exceptionally interesting and informative program.
