Roy Williams Jr. was appointed as Ward 3 Alderman for City Council in Springfield, Illinois to fill the vacancy resulting from the appointment of Alderwoman Doris Turner to the Illinois State Senate. The Springfield City Council approved the appointment of Alderman Williams on March 16, 2021.

Williams served as a platoon sergeant in the U.S. Army. He also has served as the President of Faith Coalition for the Common Good since 2010.

From the Springfield City email newsletter

“Roy is very engaged in Ward 3 and throughout the community on many different fronts. I believe he will represent the residents, neighborhoods, and city very well and be a great addition to the City Council…. Through conversations with these residents, Ward 3 has a very bright future.”

The vacancy of Ward 3 falls within the 28-month window of the next City election. Because of this, Williams will fulfill the remaining Aldermanic term that will expire in the spring of 2023. The vacancy is due to Senator Doris Turner’s appointment to the Illinois General Assembly earlier this month.
